After a slow start (that numerous Western journalists were quick to ridicule), Russia has steadily moved up in the medal league, finally topping it today:

Chances are that they will end up winning it, as one day of competitions remain (three medal events, out of which Russia has a strong gold medal chance in two, and the third involving only Canada and Sweden)

Regardless of what happens from now on, they've broken the Russian Federation record (by a lot) and they have equaled the USSR record if I understand things correctly.

And today number one spot was assured with 33 medals and 13 golds. That was a great result, I never expect Russia to win so many medals.

    Нас не догонят.

The closing ceremony was great as well. Less massive than the opening of course, but flawlessly executed. Was nice to see them poke fun at the little 5th ring glitch of the opening, too.

    A resounding success. Everything.

Watched a rerun of the 50km race just now and the Russian commentator yelled just that. :)

An epic finale. The crowd was euphoric.

Well, what can I say. Congratulations Russia!

Sweden didn't do bad either, more medals than ever, and two epic golds in the relay.
