Russia gets to play Japan at a Rugby match in North Wales. When Rugby was an amateur sport, Japan played at the top level. Since professionalism, Japan has faded out of the top ten but is still good. At the beginning of this season Russia ranked 19th. The highest ever for Russia. So Russia gets to play Japan. Real first class Rugby if not quite the very top level. Presumably New Zealand (the fourth team) is waiting for the trade agreement to be signed. The match will be in Wales, albeit the North. My former teacher of Russian in Cardiff arrived in Wales over 30 years ago as the interpreter for the Soviet Rugby team, then entirely composed of Airforce conscripts. There is actually a Rugby team in Saratov these days.

    Sorry about that!

I auto-associate World Cup with football; don't have the first clue about rugby. Will leave you two at it.
